a U.S. car with a 50-mpg rating

5/25/2009

With concerns about the war, gasoline prices
and an uncertain economy, a U.S. automobile
manufacturer offers a car that gets 50 miles
to the gallon.

The car is the Crosley; the company is the
Crosley Corporation; and the war is WWII.

Here's more from the Crosley ad that appeared
in the May 1941 issue of Popular Mechanics -

To borrow a phrase from a popular song of that era,
We Did It Before And We Can Do It Again!

Can we?
Will we?

listen, the CRX used to get 50 because it had nothing in it. no power steering, no power breaks, no power windows. you wanted this American greed and luxury you got it. We wanted it, we gave the corporations the ability to buy these 16 mpg cars, sedans, and trucks. Destroy the image and the enemy will die. learn.

Before I buy that car I wanna see the crash-test footage. Then I'll video my reaction to that footage. I'll probably get a million views on YouTube.

My car has all those things and does 53mpg when I drive like a twerp. American's just didn't care until recently so car companies didn't either. The problem you have is your cars are too big and based on pathetically outdated technology - V8's that generate less power than straight sixes you can get in Europe. Luckily, this financial crisis seems to have been the toe in the ass American manufacturers needed.

There is a "real" car being made with space age technology which runs on a Hybrid + Gas technology, and at an affordable price. What is most surprising is that it can provide a WHOPPING 300 MPG per charge!! Another thing that is very cool about this car is that it is sent to you in a "package" and you can assemble it yourself if you want to keep the costs down. Do not get me wrong, it is not a toy car, its a real car with 4 passenger seating. I have done an article on this car in deapth in beta, if you are interested you can have a look at http://indiawebsearch.com/content/space-age-inflatable-car-that-can-do-200-miles-per-gallon
